>FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

1.  What kind of documentation do I need for my internship at RAI Corporation?

The first step in becoming an intern at RAI Corporation is contacting your University’s Internship Office and requesting the necessary documents for an international internship.  Most universities require a Progetto Formativo signed by the intern, the company, and the university that must be completed prior to the first day of the scheduled internship.

2.  Do I need a visa?

Italy participates in the Visa Waiver Program and therefore does not require its citizens to have a Visa in order to travel in the United States for periods less than 90 days.  As all internships are less than 90 days, and furthermore, are unpaid internships, it is not required that you apply for a special Visa.

The United States does require that all visitors possess an electronic passport.  As an Italian citizen, if your passport was issued or renewed after October 26, 2005, you were automatically given an electronic passport.  Otherwise, you must apply for a new passport prior to submitting your resume for consideration.

On a tourist visa, you must not overstay the 90 day limit.  It is the responsibility of selected interns to plan their departure from New York within the 90 days.

3.  What kind of health insurance should I have in the United States?

RAI Corporation does not provide health insurance or worker’s compensation.  The United States requires its visitors to possess traveler’s insurance in the case of a medical emergency.  We recommend that prior to your arrival you speak with your university or other local benefits carrier for further recommendations for this type of coverage.

Your university should provide your worker’s compensation insurance, should anything happen during working hours.  This information is detailed on most individual agreements (Progetto Formativo).

4.  Does RAI Corporation provide accommodation or reimbursement for expenses?

RAI Corporation does not provide any assistance with accommodation or reimbursement for miscellaneous expenses.  Further along in this guide we will provide you with helpful guidelines and resources for looking for an apartment or other housing alternative.

Prior to application, please consider the financial obligation of an internship abroad and consult with your university for any financial assistance programs that may be available.  We have estimated in the past that each intern must spend roughly $5,000.00 in rent, travel expenses, and living expenses in New York.
